Trading Veteran Mark Kepner Joins Themis Trading As Managing Director

Chatham, NJ, May 27 2014—Themis Trading, an agency brokerage serving institutional investors, announced today that Mark Kepner, an equity trading veteran with over 20 years of Wall Street experience, has joined the firm as Managing Director – Sales & Trading. In that role, Mr. Kepner will work with founders Sal Arnuk and Joe Saluzzi and the rest of the Themis Team to cover institutional accounts and advance the firm’s work on market structure reform.

Mr. Kepner was most recently a senior member of the institutional sales trading desk at Instinet, LLC. Prior to Instinet, he was with Bear Stearns Asset Management in institutional sales and marketing.

“Mark is an experienced trader who knows his way around a rapidly changing equity market structure,” said Joseph Saluzzi, Partner and Co-Head of Equity Trading at Themis. “We’ve known Mark for a long time. He’s a real pro who will help our clients get the trade execution they deserve. We’re very excited to have him on board.”

Arnuk and Saluzzi are the co-authors of “Broken Markets: How High Frequency Trading and Predatory Practices on Wall Street are Destroying Investor Confidence” and have been vocal critics of market structure and high-frequency trading. Themis produces a heavily read blog on market structure issues and a monthly report for clients on trends and developments in equity trading. Themis focuses trade strategies to circumvent high-frequency trading practices in order to get fair price and size execution for clients.

Themis also announced that John Connell has been elevated to the full-time position of Administration and Trading Assistant. John has a clearing and operations background and was previously an intern with Themis.
