After years of SEC roundtables, investor advisory committees, 77 comment letters and countless hours of industry debate, the Tick Size Pilot Program has finally been approved by the SEC. One year from now, on May 6, 2016, there will be 1400 stocks that will begin trading in this pilot program. The SEC clearly stated why they think a Tick Size Pilot program is necessary: “The wider tick size may incentivize market makers to increase their market making activities in these stocks.
